Focus Features made history with the release of Downton Abbey this weekend which went on to earn approximately $31 million, which became the studio’s largest opening in history — and impressive feat for a well-entrenched studio that has released some very noteworthy films over the years. Elsewhere, both Ad Astra and Rambo: Last Blood came in right around $19 million, effectively knocking The Lion King out of the top five for the first time in its theatrical run.
Hustlers also put in a strong second weekend, as the buzz for JLo’s Oscars campaign starts to grow. We take stock in the current state of the Oscars race and look at other contenders that are starting to make waves.
