Bleach

You know, if Netflix is going to continue to move towards its ultimate goal of world domination, it has to account for every culture around the world. Enter Bleach, the live-action version of the popular anime property. While you may not be very knowledgable of the property, there’s plenty of people who are, and Netflix might just have bought themselves thousands of new subscribers with quality, new programming.

The following review will be spoiler free.

Synopsis

Directed By: Shinsuke Sato

Written By: Daisuke Habara

Starring: Miyavi, Hana Sugisaki, Sôta Fukushi, Taichi Saotome, and Erina Mano

A Japanese teenager acquires the powers of a Soul Reaper after a fateful encounter with an injured Soul Reaper. With its help, he takes on the duty of ushering lost souls into the afterlife and defeating evil spirits that threaten the living world.

It’s really hard to condense a longer running anime into one short live action movie. Impossible. As a big fan of the genre as well as an avid anime watcher, I think what it will do is peek the interest of those that have never watched one episode. Also, those more familiar with the Japanese actors and idols featured will also be attracted to the movie. Me? I was mildly entertained even though I also don’t think it was the best adaptation of an anime. Really, those are rare and far between. Thrilled to see Miyavi on the screen though!!! Regardless, it will do well and will be the catalyst for more content. I could give Netflix a whole list of anime to live action I’d love to see!!

I’m sure they’d loved to hear that list — their pockets just keep getting bigger 😂

My son turned me on to Bleach a few years ago. We have watched the entire series. Believe me that if as much is wrong as the anonymous commenter said, it will fail especially among devoted Bleach fans.

Such a shame! Reminds me of the Death Note live-action movie in that sense

Bummer! I’m sorry to hear that! Both I and Austin approached this movie without watching the anime, maybe we need to educate ourselves a little better!

Where is the review, dude? You just gave a synopsis of the story. What about the rest? Where’s the rating? What kind of cheap publicity tactics are you using to get people to click your links. Disappointed and unfollowing!
