So “Bala” translates to “Bullet” in English. That’s right, Columbia Pictures released a hard-edged, tough as nails crime thriller entitled Miss Bullet. Shoosh, these jokes write themselves, don’t they? Did Roger Corman secretly make this film?
Unceremoniously, Miss Bala came to theaters a few weeks ago…and is already ready to leave them in a blink of an eye. Poor Gina Rodriguez. She’s deserves better than this fate.
The following review will be spoiler free.
Directed By: Catherine Hardwicke
Written By: Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer
Starring: Gina Rodriguez, Anthony Mackie, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Thomas Dekker, Matt Lauria, and Aislinn Derbez
On a visit to see her friend Suzu in Tijuana from Los Angeles, Gloria (Rodriguez) is kidnapped after a shootout at a night club started by a local cartel. To get her freedom, she must commit a crime herself for the cartel, putting her into criminal trouble once she comes into contact with a DEA agent.
Though she lost contact with Suzu immediately after the initial shootout at the night club, Gloria must play both sides of the conflict to get to safety and have any chance of saving her.
