‘Darling’ by Saim Sadiq

by The MovieBabble Staff

As a new show is introduced at an erotic dance theater in Lahore, a sacrificial goat goes missing, a dreamy trans girl desperately tries to become a star, and a naive young boy falls in love.

Nick Kush: Such honest snapshots into other cultures are what I crave in Cinema. Saim Sadiq walks the line perfectly in displaying a grounded look into a sect of Pakistani culture while also showcasing his skills as a director, particularly in one showstopping dance scene. At its core, though, Darling is a great exploration of how people are sadly far more accepting in theory than in practice.
