Five Must-See Modern Cult Comedies [Video]

Cult Comedies

It’s no secret that studio comedies have struggled in recent years. Although 2018 had fun hits like Game Night and Blockers, we’ve seen far too many bland comedies that are so underwritten and lazy, which end up far exceeding the amount of quality, funny movies that we get. (Need I remind you of Holmes & Watson?) Luckily we have plenty of fun people working in independent cinema that are managing to find ways for inventive and hilarious stories to get to theaters.

Independent cinema has been great to comedies in the last few years. Its structure allows for odd setups to get even odder, and it’s probably the best way for daring artists to push boundaries. That’s how you get cult comedies where vampires improvise for 90 minutes and dark comedies about terrorist groups abroad.
