Remake cynicism begone, Steven Spielberg’s retelling of West Side Story is pretty damn good. The titan filmmaker managed to inject some classic Spielberg Magic™ into the musical that we’ve been missing in film for some time, which often helps the film overcome some of its plot and character issues. Brennan and I talk about what worked, how it compares to the 1961 original, and why Ansel Elgort is a major shrug at best.
Elsewhere, I discuss why I love Red Rocket and its reprehensible lead character, and we both take some time to gush about Jane Campion and The Power of the Dog.
