Director Richard Keaney Analyzes ‘First Man’ [Watch]

First Man

With two impeccable films in Whiplash and La La Land, Damien Chazelle had already proved himself as a director to watch in Hollywood. But First Man is another high mark for the filmmaker, turning a seemingly by-the-numbers prestige story into a fascinating character study. Called the third movie in Chazelle’s ‘Obsession’ trilogy, First Man is a stark look at the perils of success and the sacrifices that come with leaps in knowledge and humanity as a whole.

The film is a clear creation of a director with a vision. Thankfully Universal was onboard with Chazelle creating a different take on a straightforward tale as it made for a better final product.
