The New and Improved ‘League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’

'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' wasn't really extraordinary; I want to change that.

The League of Extraordindary Gentlemen

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was supposedly so bad that Sean Connery retired after making it. After watching it, I can’t blame him. It’s a ridiculous adventure with no real stakes and it was over before I could even get into it.

However, I like the idea of a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (and Women). It has an Avengers quality that I find charming, despite how exhausted the idea is now.

If I were creating my own modern League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I would create it with entirely different characters. For my League, I am including any fictional character from any media: TV, movies, books, video games, etc.

Harry Potter

I’m not really into Harry Potter as much. The fandom surrounding it is quite tiresome and having to hear if people are a Slytherin or Gryffindor gets old fast. However, Harry Potter would be the perfect choice for a group who has to save the world. Having someone with magic on their side would make them unstoppable. Of course, no one but Daniel Radcliffe could play this role. I think he could be easily convinced to take on the role again if we promised that Harry Potter could do whatever he wanted in the film.

Lara Croft

The group will need someone trained in hand-to-hand combat. Having background knowledge in history could also be helpful as well. Lara Croft could easily become the leader of the group with her intelligence and her strength. Plus, I’m using the video game Lara Croft, so she has more than one life. If she dies, she’ll just respawn nearby. Instead of choosing a previous Lara Croft actress, I’m going to cast an actual Olympic gymnast in the role because I really want this Lara to do some crazy stunts. Hopefully, Simone Biles would be available.

Sherlock Holmes

We need someone on illicit drugs to really round this group out. Sherlock Holmes, despite his addictions and more unsavory habits, would be an asset to the group. He is extremely smart and notices things that others don’t. These are qualities we’ll need in a group hunting down the world’s bad guys. For this role, I will go with established Sherlock Holmes actor Robert Downey Jr. He was perfect in the 2009 film and its sequel. No one but him could take over this role in the crazed yet wise manner that he has.

Buffy

You never know when you’re going to run into some vampires. The group needs to have Buffy on hand in case we run into any blood-sucking villains. Buffy also has occasional dreams that predict the future, which could be an asset in our case. To play the role of the Vampire Slayer, I would cast Taylor Momsen. I know she’s not acting anymore, but I would try my absolute hardest to bring her on the project. If I let The Pretty Reckless throw a few songs on the soundtrack, I think she’d be 100% on board.

Princess Leia

Specifically, Princess Leia from the Battle of Endor is who I want for the League. That was a scrappy, ferocious version of Princess Leia that could really help out the League; she knew military strategies and utilized them. Additionally, she is well-versed in diplomacy and politics, which could help the League with its public image and relationships with world leaders. Obviously, no one can replace Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, so I’d cast her daughter Billie Lourd in the role. She’d look similar and pay tribute to the character.

Percy Jackson

It’s been a while since I read The Lightning Thief series but Percy Jackson was always a model hero. He was humble yet brave; he wasn’t afraid to sacrifice for what he loved. The League could use someone youthful and with a pure heart to help them along in the dark times. Plus, he’s got some Greek gadgets that could help out in a battle. For casting the role, I would do something a little different. In every scene, Percy will be played by a different popular young actor in Hollywood. The fact that he has changing looks will not be mentioned.

Gollum

Our group needs a weird little guy to follow them around. Let’s throw Gollum in there. He will be played by me.
